RTE confirms end date for Tommy Tiernan Show and it's sooner than you might think

One of Ireland’s most popular chat shows is set to finish up its tenure on RTÉ next week after its latest series ends.

The Tommy Tiernan Show, much loved for its unrehearsed format, will be ending up on Saturday, March 25, following a 12-week run, with the comedian being joined by one last batch of new guests before he says goodbye following a jam-packed series.

The news that host Tommy would be presenting his last show in the series on Saturday evening was confirmed to RSVP by RTÉ on Wednesday.

While It is confirmed Tommy won’t be interviewing any more guests this year, it isn’t yet known who will be joining the iconic Meath comedian on Saturday's show, given that the format of the show revolves around an improvised set-up, in which neither the host nor the viewers are told the identity of the guests in advance.

This has led to some cracking interviews spanning a range of topics, both hilarious and harrowing, sometimes with the same guest. During the 2023 run of the show, Tommy chatted with a plethora of sports stars, actors, activists and comedians.

This year saw Tommy interview Manchester United legend Roy Keane, Galway GAA icons Joe Canning and Ollie Canning, LGBT activist Rebecca De Havilland, former Meath star Colm O'Rourke and actress Denise Gough.

He also interviewed journalist, writer and podcaster Sophie White, snooker legend Ken Doherty, singer Damian Dempsey, presenter and comedian Dara Ó Briain and RTÉ football pundit Richie Sadlier.

The news that the show will end comes just days after long-standing Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy announced he would be stepping down from his role at the helm of the Friday night chat show.

Tiernan is currently one of the contenders to replace Tubridy as the next presenter, with the comedian being backed at 16/1 with Ladbrokes and 9/1 with Boylesports.

The Tommy Tiernan Show airs for the final time this year on Saturday night at 9:30pm on RTÉ One.
