RTE Claire Byrne Live viewers were left horrified over the chaos at Dublin Airport over the past week.
Passengers at the airport have been experiencing significant delays as it struggles to deal with staffing shortages.
Images shared on social media showed the huge crowds of people as they waited to go through the necessary security checks.
Like many others throughout Europe, Dublin Airport has struggled to return to busy environments after the collapse of international travel during the pandemic, which led to 1,000 staff leaving the airport under a voluntary severance scheme.
In a statement, the daa apologised to passengers for the delays.
It said: "Like other airports all over Europe, we are currently working extremely hard to ramp-up our operation at Dublin Airport after the collapse of international travel over the past two years including the hiring and training of staff after 1,000 workers left the airport under a voluntary severance scheme during the Covid-19 pandemic."
Since January, over 100 new security staff have been recruited. However, the daa said the recruitment, training and background security checks required for all staff working at international airports have delayed the rehiring process and could take up to a number of weeks.
It said: "This is having an impact on the length of time it is taking passengers to get through security, particularly at busy times.
"We apologise in advance, but queues for security are likely to be experienced at peak hours over the days and weeks ahead as we continue to bring trained staff on board."
The topic was discussed on the RTE programme on Monday night, and left viewers shocked as several passengers said the delays had caused them to miss their flight.
Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "It's queues everywhere! Queues for immigration pre clearance are atrocious also. And it's not just Dublin airport. It's all airports."
Another said: "My daughter went in plenty of time yesterday, panicked when q was slow moving, went to fast track, q for an hour to get to the machine, it was down, guy on fast track didn't wanna know. Tried to book online but no slot available till 9pm , her flight was 9pm. Left in tears".
While a third commented: "Fast track was 1 hour earlier today, the airport was just one big long long long que, never seen anything like it !"
However, others appeared to be lucky as they managed to get through security checks with ease.
One person said: "Daughter was there first thing Friday morning, nothing no queues no nothing , I'm gathering she was just lucky".
