RTE viewers were left divided on Monday night, after noticing some interesting props being used for an Inflation Supermarket segment on Claire Byrne Live.
In a segment with retail expert Barry Savage who joined her in-studio, Claire discussed the rising cost of groceries in our supermarkets and how much items had increased since before the pandemic.
In the grocery shopping they revealed that the price of a loaf of sliced pan has increased by 2.4%, cornflakes by 2.4%, a block of butter by 2.6%, vegetable oil by 3.3% and lamb chops have jumped in price by 19.7%.
However, people watching the show slammed the segment as 'childish' as they pair placed groceries on a supermarket convener belt and revealed the percentage increase under a big coloured star.
One person wrote: "If it wasn’t for fact this show was on so late I’d think it was a newsshow for kids. Lots of props and gimmicks to keep them interested."
One viewer harshly joked: "Is #cblive a sort of Ladybird book of “Current affairs” made for those who are a bit dim."
Another added: "Who ever is doing the props for #cblive since the pandemic hit is either taking too many drugs or just having a serious laugh."
While one person simply called the segment "hugely childish".
Someone else joked about the set, writing: "They're cleanly retrofitting the set of Bosco from the 80's on #cblive this week...!"
The segment also revealed the percentage increases on household items as well showing that the price of a kettle has jumped by 7.1%, a newspaper is up by 10%, briquettes for the fire are up by 10.9%, and postage stamps will be up by 25% after their increase in March.
Some of the biggest jumps in prices were seen in elecricity and fuel as people say their electricity bill go up by 27.1% and fuel by 33% with plane tickets also jumping 31.5%.
