RTE 2FM boss Dan Healy admitted he was blindsided by departing stars Louise McSharry and Keith Walsh’s public bashing of their former workplace after they were axed.
But he said he refused to ruin his day by reading any of it.
Former breakfast presenting star Keith slammed the national broadcaster for how they treat employees and made allegations of a "toxic" environment after leaving last year.
His comments came after popular DJ Louise McSharry announced she was also leaving the station after 11 years and said she was left ‘feeling like trash’.
Responding to the backlash from his former employees, well known radio boss Dan has defended the station’s decision to make the cuts, saying: “This is the nature of this.
“And unfortunately it is tough.”
“They chose to be personalities on stations like 2fm, and these are short contracts, and in most cases we give people quite a lot of notice when there are changes. We do our best, we really respect the talent.”
Referring to a recent Irish Independent article where Louise recently claimed she felt ‘disposed of’ by her former bosses, Dan told Irish Daily Mirror: “I didn’t read the article and that is being honest.
“The reality is, in the last couple of weeks we put quite a few presenters into different day parts around the schedule and that is tough.
“And we as a policy do not talk about what people earn, when they come and when they leave.
“So there was no point wrecking my weekend..”
Responding to Louise’s complaints that bosses didn’t allow her to finish out her final days of her show as a result of breaking the news of her departure before she was allowed, Dan added: “All I'll say is things happened very quickly there that we weren’t expecting that now so in that week I spoke to five people.
“And spoke to their agents, and by the time we have done that bit and agreed things then normally we would meet the talent but things moved, and she said as I understand from others, that she said in the article that she released her statement although she had agreed something with us.
“So she moved fast, faster than I thought. I was enjoying my coffee having gone to my GP and got into the car and my phone buzzed.”
“So take responsibility for your own actions too sometimes,” he added.
The widely known boss, who is the co-founder and shareholder of iRadio and KCLR 96FM, said he still respects Louise and Keith, having worked with them since their beginnings on air.
“These are great personalities. I have worked with Louise since she was on Newstalk, she came down to iRadio with me, she is a great presenter.
“But I keep saying like, I think Keith [Walsh] is a really good guy, a great presenter, I watched his show on Facebook, and these are people we will work with again.
“Maybe not on 2fm.. Like Keith was working with me in iRadio and then i went to 2FM and he came to 2FM with me, so this is the nature of this.”
Speaking after the latest Joint National Listenership Report (JNLR), were revealed, he added:“These people are great people, and talented people, and it is awfully hard but you have to move on.
“And some presenters react differently than others to that news, which I have no control over.”
It comes as even more changes are set to shake up the 2fm line-up as comedy duo the 2 Johnnies are set to take over Jenny Greene's drivetime evening slot.
Describing it as an 'exciting time', he said: “We have to adapt to the audience, we are chasing a younger audience so we have to make changes to the schedule.
“That’s the nature of it.”
“And we have the 2 Johnnies coming which is really exciting and it sounds a bit odd really, but they are bringing an Irishness to the station.
“Jenny Greene actually had a very good book, and now with the lads coming in, it is going to be very exciting.”
