Tricolour seen on RSS social media accounts

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, along with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, changed their display picture on social media accounts with the tricolour to mark their support to the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The RSS top brass maintained that the change was part of their “strategy” for the 75th anniversary of Independence and has nothing to do with criticism from Opposition parties that had pointed out that the RSS had not hoisted the tricolour in its Nagpur headquarters for several decades.

Apart from changing their display pictures, Mr. Bhagwat met District Magistrate of Nagpur R. Vimala, who presented the national flag to him on Saturday. The flag was hoisted in the RSS headquarters in an event where senior functionaries, including Ram Harkare and Rajesh Loya, were present.

The RSS, on its social media accounts also shared a video of Mr. Bhagwat and other Sangh office-bearers, hoisting the Tricolour. “Celebrate the ‘amrit mahotsav’ of Independence. Hoist the Tricolour in every house,” said the RSS Twitter post.

The move comes in the wake of questions being posed by the Congress and other Opposition leaders to the RSS on their engagement with the Tricolour. The RSS top brass, however, maintained that the initiative had nothing to do with the criticism but was part of a planned strategy to celebrate the 75th year of Independence.

“The flag hoisting by Mohan Bhagwat will continue on Sunday and Monday as well,” said a senior Sangh functionary.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence, Mr. Modi had appealed to all Indians to change their social media display pictures with the Tricolour.
