RSPCA probe video of woman 'kicking and hitting' dog at 'pet retreat'

The RSPCA has opened an investigation after footage emerged online of a woman appearing to repeatedly kick and punch several dogs.

The ECHO understands that the footage was captured at Home from Home Dog Retreat, in Ellesmere Port. The company has no connection with Home from Home pet sitting services, based in Broughton.

In one of the four videos seen by the ECHO a woman can be seen walking towards the a mesh enclosure, saying "Ringo, Ringo, Ringo, go and lie down" before turning to another dog and saying "Oi, Archie, Archie.".

She can then be heard saying "he's p*****d all in here now. God's sake. They're misbehaving". The woman then appears to kick a small white dog which squeals in response. She then points at the dog, and shouts "behave".

In another video, the same woman leads three dogs through to the enclosure. She then approaches one of the dogs, leaning down and cradling its face before appearing to hit it. She then appears to hit the dog once more as she turns away.

The final video is dated that same day, at 2.43pm. It shows four dogs showing an interest in a patch of floor.

In the background a woman can be heard saying "what have you done" before a woman enters the shot and appears to kick two dogs which came over to her. She then says "naughty boy Ringo, look at that" and points at what appears to be dog urine on the floor. She then appears to hit a dog on its side.

The final video, timed only minutes later, shows the woman walking towards the enclosure, saying "Ringo, Ringo, Ringo, go and lie down" before turning to another dog and saying "Oi, Archie, Archie."

When the ECHO rang the address from which the dog retreat operated, the woman who answered, who it is belived was the owner, said she did not want to comment on the videos or the RSPCA investigation.

A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: "We are aware of the footage and are looking into this.

“We would always urge anyone who witnesses animal cruelty or is concerned for an animal’s safety to contact police or the RSPCA on 0300 123 4999.

“The RSPCA only promotes positive, reward-based training methods. More information about reward based training can be found on the RSPCA website."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police also said they had been made aware of the videos and have referred the matter to the RSPCA.
