The RSPCA has issued a statement after a concerns were raised over the health of a dog in Nottingham. An image of the pet was widely circulated on social media this month (May), with many commenters raising questions over its care.
A Facebook post claimed the dog was starving and that the RSPCA had been contacted. When approached by Nottinghamshire Live, the charity said it was aware of the situation but said it had limited powers.
A spokesperson said: “We would like to reassure animal lovers that we are aware and are involved however we cannot give further information at this time. We will often work with the police and local authorities in such cases as they have powers which we do not."
When approached about the dog, a Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “We work with and support our partner agencies, such as the RSPCA, in a bid to bring those responsible for animal cruelty to justice, and in turn send out a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
“If you suspect someone of being cruel to their pets call the RSPCA immediately on 0300 1234 999.”
