Rs 8.93 lakh in cash found at SHO's home in Patna

PATNA: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of state police on Wednesday raided the residential premises and office of Rupaspur police station SHO Madhusudan on the charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Simultaneous searches carried out at his residence in Anand Vihar Colony in Patna and his ancestral home at Chowram in Aurangabad district revealed that Madhusudan allegedly amassed assets worth Rs 87 lakh, which is more than 62.67% of his known sources of income, by conniving with sand smugglers. He was appointed as sub-inspector in 2009 and served at Maner in rural Patna and Gaya district.

The EOU registered a disproportionate assets (DA) case against him on Tuesday and conducted the raids after procuring search warrants. The EOU sleuths unearthed over Rs 47 lakh deposited in the bank accounts of Madhusudan and his wife. His total movable assets have been found to be worth Rs 61,91,400. The EOU team recovered Rs 8.93 lakh in cash from his home, bank passbooks, property papers and documents related to huge investments in insurance policies.

"He had taken Rs10 lakh bank loan which was paid prematurely by depositing Rs2.80 lakh in cash. A 5.74 decimal plot of land worth Rs49.81 lakh as per value on papers has been registered in his wife's name at Rukanpura," said the EOU sources.

The EOU team also found two plots bought in Bodh Gaya in the name of his mother and wife, one each in Chauram and Daudnagar, Sherghati and Hiryo in Gaya and two plots of land at Kharanti in Gaya. The purchase price of all these plots had been Rs 98.21 lakh while Rs 8,73,415 was paid as registration fee.
