Royals want York family to 'stay under the radar' as disgraced Andrew is an 'embarrassment'

It is hoped that the York family will continue to "stay under the radar" by the rest of the Royal Family, one expert has claimed.

Royal biographer Andrew Lownie claims that Prince Andrew is seen as an "embarrassment" to the rest of the Firm and that his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson “continues to generate unfortunate headlines”.

Just this week, the Express reported that a source had revealed that Andrew was banned from appearing at this year's Order of the Garter as the Palace wants to cut down on the disgraced Duke's public appearances.

However, the author of the 2021 work Traitor King said the royal family desperately "needs" more working royals after they lost both Andrew and the Sussexes in quick succession.

Andrew's two daughters Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are also unlikely to be able to take on any prominent roles due to the demand of their young families with Eugenie having just given birth to her second son at the end of May.

Mr Lownie however implied to the Express that it is hoped the York family will stay away from the spotlight altogether.

Mr Lownie said: “The Firm need more working royals but the daughters are young mothers and have careers. Eugenie spends much time in Portugal so not ideal.”

Last month Princess Anne voiced her concerns about the now slimmed-down Royal Family in an interview with the Canadian broadcaster CBC News.

The Princess Royal who frequently tops the list for the royal who has carried out the most royal engagements in one year said she did not believe it was a "good idea" anymore as it was originally thought up when there were more royals to contribute.

Not only are Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice unable to help due to their young children, they also both have very demanding careers. Eugenie is the associate director of the London art gallery Hauser & Wirth while older sister Beatrice is Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy at the tech company Afiniti.

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank also split their time between the UK and Portugal with the 37-year-old having landed a job with property tycoon Mike Meldman and his Discovery Land Company one of actor George Clooney's business partners

The Telegraph reported that the royal couple now live half of the year on the CostaTerra Gold and Ocean Club south of Lisbon.

Regardless of all the reasons why they can't be more involved with the royals, Mr Lownie believes that the Firm are happier with the York family out of the picture.

He continued: “There’s a hope the York family, in general, will stay under the radar… Their mother [ Sarah Ferguson ] continues to generate unfortunate headlines.”

Fergie recently started her own podcast Tea Talks with her friend, entrepreneur Sarah Thomson where she claimed that no topic is off-limits or their show.

Andrew who was stripped from his royal titles after his car crash Newsnight interview in 2019 has also recently made headlines for his alleged feud with his brother King Charles.

The Duke of York is reportedly refusing to obey the monarch who has asked him to vacate the 30-room Royal Lodge which he shares with his ex-wife Fergie.

Mr Lownie added: “The family see him as an embarrassment but he has never been one to be pushed around. Self-awareness is not one of his qualities.”
