Royal train pulls into Ayrshire station as speculation mounts over King Charles visit

The Royal Train arrived in Ayr last night as speculation mounts over the arrival of King Charles in town.

A heavy police presence was in position throughout the evening ahead of the train's arrival.

Eyewitnesses have told Ayrshire Live that a delegation was spotted near the rear of the train with a convoy parked up at the station also.

It's understood the King had been at Dumfries House earlier this week and was leaving on the train for engagements in Manchester and Bolton late last night.

One person said: "It was clear from the police presence that they were expecting someone very important to arrive [or depart].

"Sure enough the Royal Train arrived and they weren't letting anyone get close to the station itself.

"Those who came off the train were escorted away into people carriers before leaving very quickly."

It would mark the first visit of Charles to Ayrshire since becoming King, should the visit be confirmed.

Nearby Dumfries House in Cumnock was saved by Charles when Prince of Wales and is in the ownership of The Prince's Foundation.

He has been a regular visitor to the site down the years and was in residence at the House when the late Queen took ill before her death last year.

Charles then flew by helicopter from Dumfries House to be by her bedside at Balmoral before she passed away.
