Royal pain as double demerits strike early in honour of Queen public holiday

DOUBLE demerits will be a royal pain for drivers caught breaking the law this week, with the harsher penalties arriving early due to Thursday's public holiday.

The national day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II has brought the school holiday crackdown forward, with police enforcing the penalty on speeding, seatbelt, mobile phone and motorcycle helmet offences from midnight Tuesday.
