Royal Mail to hire 22,000 workers for Christmas – what you need to know

  • Royal Mail is recruiting approximately 22,000 temporary workers across the UK to handle peak demand during the Christmas period.
  • The seasonal positions include thousands of mail sorting, delivery and collection roles, alongside 2,100 truck driver posts.
  • To support the festive operation, the postal operator will expand its fleet of 6,000 vehicles with an additional 7,500 hire vans.
  • The hiring drive comes as regulator Ofcom investigates Royal Mail for persistently failing to meet its required delivery benchmarks.
  • Royal Mail missed its annual targets again, delivering only 75.7 per cent of first-class letters the next working day against a 90 per cent requirement.
