Royal Mail makes big change to all parcel deliveries

Royal Mail has announced changes to how parcels will now be delivered.

If you're not in when a parcel is being delivered, Royal Mail will leave you a 'Something for you' card informing you whether they have left your item with a neighbour or in a safe place. They will also now inform you if they will automatically redeliver your parcel the next working day.

However, this means that you will no longer be able to collect your parcel after the first delivery attempt. You can’t collect your parcel until after Royal Mail has made the automatic redelivery attempt the next working day, excluding Sundays and bank holidays.

If a second redelivery is unsuccessful, a postal worker will leave another 'Something for You' card stating your options. You can choose to organise another redelivery or you can collect your item from your local customer service point from the following working day.

If the item remains undelivered and Royal Mail receive no instruction from you, the item will be stored for up to 18 days and if not collected or redelivered it will be returned to the sender.

You can still request your item to be redelivered to the original address, a safe place, a neighbour, a nominated local address, or local Post Office via the Royal Mail app or Royal Mail's website.
