It was William’s 40th birthday this week - and speculation has been growing that the self-confessed music expert would love to go to Glastonbury 2022 as part of his celebrations. The heir to the throne has gone on the record before saying that he would love to go there.
The question is - has Kate lined up a special VIP package where we’ll see the Duke of Cambridge grooving at the side of the Pyramid stage - or even staying in a tent? Lest we forget his dad Prince Charles made a trip to the festival himself - to mark Glasto’s own 40th in 2010.
So could we see Prince William making a David Attenborough style speech at the festival, especially given his focus on the environment in recent times? Whether it’s for 2022 or in the future, it would be an unforgettable festival moment.

Below Somerset Live took a look at the reasons Prince William and Kate could pop up at Worthy Farm.
William has previously admitted that he would love to go. In aninterview in 2017 he said he was “really into music”. He added: “Unfortunately it’s quite tricky [to go to concerts].”
“I talked about going to Glastonbury because I am really into my music and Catherine as well. We talked about going to Glastonbury. [But] I’ve got into enough trouble for my dancing recently so it’s probably best to keep away from that.”
At the time a clip of him “dad dancing” during a boys’ skiing trip the previous month had been circulating online. And the seemingly innocent clip of him dancing to Luniz’s Nineties hit, I Got 5 landed the royal in hot water.
The Sun reported a critic saying they “couldn’t believe” that the second-in-line to the throne was dancing to a rap song which included lyrics about smoking cannabis. That might be difficult to avoid if he went to see many of the acts but 2022 headliner Sir Paul McCartney would be a pretty safe bet.
Also Wills has spoken of his musical taste - for Monday motivation he chose Thunderstruck by AC/DC. Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’ was his favourite song to listen to with his children.
He also revealed that his mother played Tina Turner’s Simply The Best in the car when he and Prince Harry returned to boarding school after the holidays to sooth their nerves.
Unlike his father who turned up to Glastonbury in brogues and a cream suit, William is not afraid to be seen in waterproofs and wellies - he’s certainly sported them in the past - so would be prepared if it turned into a mudbath.
Prince Charles went to Worthy Farm as a long-term supporter of Water Aid and Prince William supports environmental initiatives too. He could turn up to support green charities or promote his Earthshot prize.
Harry attended the festival in 2013 when he was spotted watching the Rolling Stones and eating chips with his then-girlfriend Cressida Bonas. His bid to hide behind sunglasses and a trilby hat didn’t work.
Prince William and Prince Harry making up with a duet on the Pyramid stage is something royal fans and otherwise would pay good money to see. More likely is Prince William and Kate touring the green fields in a pair of wellies.
