Royal family to charge £250 for 'special' dinner at Balmoral

THE royal family are set to charge £250 for a seven course dinner at Balmoral.

This summer the privately-owned residence opened its doors to the public for the first time, with visitors invited to pay £150 per-person for a tour which included afternoon tea.

The estate has now announced that visitors will once again be welcomed into Balmoral for a tour and a seven course meal this November and December.

A statement on the Balmoral Castle website reads: “Join us for a special 'Evening at Balmoral' this winter.

“On arrival you will be greeted by a traditional piper before experiencing an exclusive Castle Interior Tour.

“Following the tour you can then enjoy a specially curated seven course fine dining experience, inspired by the seven rooms you visit on the Castle Interior Tour.

“The meal will be complimented with paired wines and live music, served in our recently redesigned restaurant, creating a truly memorable experience.

“Tickets cost £250 per person and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.”

A menu of the dishes set to be served is also displayed on the website, with each dish inspired by one of the seven rooms visited on the tour.

It includes “hot smoked salmon futile de bric tarlet” (sp), “herb crusted Balmoral Estate venison loin”, and “Hunting Stewart treacle tart”.

It comes after another royal residence in Scotland – the Castle of Mey in Caithness – also launched its own dining experience earlier this year.

Groups of up to 12 can visit the castle and eat a three course meal for the price of £595 per-person, with the cost understood to include accommodation.
