Roy Keane’s joke with Erik ten Hag after Manchester United book place in Carabao Cup final

Roy Keane seems to be a big fan of the work Erik ten Hag has done at Old Trafford since his arrival at Manchester United. The Dutchman has booked his first final with the Reds seven months into his tenure after easing past Nottingham Forest 5-0 on aggregate in the League Cup semi-finals. A Wembley clash with Newcastle awaits as a result.

Speaking after the match, Keane was very complimentary of Ten Hag and his transformation at United. He was pleased that his former club had made it through to the Carabao Cup final and clearly wants to be there for the occasion.

The Sky Sports pundit panel was joined by Ten Hag for a chat after the win over Forest, and Keane used the opportunity to jokingly ask the United manager for tickets for the big game

“If you’ve got any spare tickets for the final I’ll hope you’d let me? Just two complementaries?” the Irishman grinned. Ten Hag smiled back, humorously promising: “I can, I think so.”

Presenter Mark Chapman afterwards hinted to Keane he'd be in the team for the Sky punditry anyway. Keane later hailed Ten Hag, saying: “It’s been a great few months for the club and for the manager, considering the start of the season they had.

“A lot of changes in pre-season, and he’ll be delighted to get to his first final - hopefully one of many. They were comfortable over two legs, Forest really disappointed with quality and probably belief, but United dominated from start to finish.

“2-0, very comfortable, especially when they were off the pace in the second half. A couple of substitutions come on and made all the difference.”

Keane added: “There’s definitely been a big change, obviously they’re winning football matches which helps.

“There definitely feels around the club a new energy and the manager has obviously put down a few markers after such a bad start to the season and that momentum and the feel-good factor is certainly back at the club. You feel the energy levels are slightly different.”
