Roy Keane opens new wellness centre for Cork charity Penny Dinners

Republic of Ireland legend Roy Keane helped Cork charity Penny Dinners in launching their new wellness centre.

Keane has been known for his contributions to charitable causes in his native Cork, and he was on hand once to appear in a number of photos as the charity added a wellness centre to their list of services.

Cork Penny Dinners is open seven days a week, 365 days a year and is centrally located in Cork city.

The service is provided free of charge and the charity currently serve approximately 2,000 fresh meals on a weekly basis to those who need them.

Keane has extended a helping hand for various charities and is perhaps best known for his association with the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, for whom he is an ambassador.

Keane made an appearance on the Late Late Show in 2020 and raised €56,000 for the charity as he talked through the work of the charity while accompanied by a Labrador puppy.

Keane was also roundly praised recently when Dr Niamh Ni Loinsigh took to Twitter to share a story of how the Manchester United legend turned up to a children's ward unannounced a number of years ago and gave a sick child "the boost and the energy that they needed".

Keane continues to work as a pundit for Sky Sports, with a return to management not imminent.

The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss recently held talks with the Black Cats over the manager's job after Lee Johnson was sacked, but all parties could not agree on terms.
