Roy Keane in killer Steven Gerrard one liner over how he'd have fared at Manchester United

Legendary Manchester United skipper Roy Keane has joked Steven Gerrard would have been in the reserves if he joined Old Trafford under his watch.

Jamie Carragher revealed Gary Neville made a futile attempt to recruit the Liverpool icon to their great rivals but it landed on deaf ears.

And Keane, who is a major admirer of his former rival, reckons Gerrard would have had to bide his time behind him and legendary Old Trafford star Paul Scholes.

The razor sharp pundit also joked that Neville's basis for trying to lure players to Manchester United was because he couldn't keep up with him.

Speaking to Sport Bible, he said: “Well obviously he would have been in the ressies for a while.

"No, but every time Gary would go away with the England squad he’d come back and say we need to sign Gerrard or Rooney.

"Look we’ll be signing all of them you know what I mean, just because they ran past Gary in training.”

Keane will be in attendance on Tuesday night as Liverpool and Manchester United square off in a pivotal Premier League clash for both.
