Roy Keane explains why Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has proved him wrong

Roy Keane has admitted Marcus Rashford has proved him wrong by becoming the 'main man' at Manchester United.

Rashford lost his starting place with Ralf Rangnick in charge last season and he scored just five goals across the entirety of that campaign, but he's emphatically discovered his form and he's currently sitting on a tally of 25 goals.

The academy product is enjoying the best season of his career and he's a contender for player of the season at Old Trafford.

Rashford is the leading goalscorer at the club and he's surprised Keane by showing the personality to become a talismanic figure.

Keane, speaking ahead of United's match against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, explained he didn't think Rashford could become the 'main man' in the team, especially after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November.

"He’s in great form and what’s surprised me over the last few months is that I wasn’t sure Marcus had that personality to want to be the main man, but he has," Keane told Sky Sports.

"Particularly with Ronaldo leaving, obviously Martial’s injured, and he’s had to take that responsibility. The types of goals he’s getting, he’s scored a couple of headers recently, and I never knew Marcus had that in his locker.

"Obviously we knew about his pace, his skill, beating people, but I think he’s enjoyed the responsibility. He’s in the form of his life, he seems fit, he seems mentally clear, just focusing a lot more on his football now.

"There was question marks over the last few years, was he distracted? A lot of people hanging onto him, now it looks like football is his priority and he’s getting his rewards. He’s in the form of his life and obviously a huge threat today."
