Roy Hodgson 'delighted' as Crystal Palace seal statement Eberechi Eze contract

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has expressed his delight after England international Eberechi Eze signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract.

The deal commits Eze's future to the club until 2027 and sees the 25-year-old midfielder join Sam Johnstone, Jordan Ayew and Michael Olise in agreeing new deals at Selhurst Park.

"I'm delighted for the club and pleased for Ebere as well, because he's done so well in the three years he's been with us and it's great to know he's pledged his future to the club," Hodgson said in a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's game with Everton.

"That says a lot about his confidence in where the club is going and what we can achieve here, because his ambition is to establish himself in the English national team and he obviously believes we can get him there.

"For us, having him on the field every week is a major bonus because of the threat he can pose to opponents.

"I would like to think it says a lot about the club and how the club is progressing.

"I'm sure the chairman, Steve Parish, and the owners must be really pleased when they can get players of that quality to commit their long-term futures to the club.

"Add to that the other top internationals we have and it says a lot for what's been achieved over the last couple of seasons."

Eze, who was Palace's top scorer last season, could mark his new deal by returning to the starting XI against Everton after coming off the bench in the second half of last weekend's win at Burnley.

"I'm delighted to have signed for the club for another three-and-a-half years," Eze told the club's website.

"I'm now in my fourth season with the club and I've enjoyed it so far. I'm loving every moment. Hopefully the fans can expect more of the same in the future, God willing.

"I'm praying for exciting performances, fun times, goals and wins."

Olise could make his first appearance of the season against Sean Dyche's side and Hodgson also has Cheick Doucoure available for selection after he trained on Friday.
