A record breaking round the world cyclist has added Gatehouse of Fleet to her pit stop list.
Jenny Graham rolled into Gatehouse after pedalling 105 miles from Keswick on a promotional tour for her new book, Coffee First Then The World.
The human dynamo put pen to paper after shattering the round the world cycling record by nearly three weeks in 2018 – covering an astonishing 18,000 miles in 124 days and 11 hours.
Jenny, from Inverness, regaled a sold-out and captivated audience at the Galloway Lodge with a selection of hair-raising tales from her incredible two-wheeled adventure.
Wheels of Fleet charity co-ordinator Danny Alderslowe introduced Jenny and spoke of his pride in the local Young Bikers group – who presented Jenny with two Wheels of Fleet T-shirts.
Danny said afterwards: “What came over loud and clear was Jenny’s determination, love for life and the amazing support she received so from many cultures around the world.
“It was similar to the top shows at the Edinburgh Festival – Jenny had the audience applauding and cheering throughout the evening.
“The following morning Jenny accompanied the only bike bus to school she would join on her whole tour.
“Speaking with so many of the young cyclists on her record-breaking bike ‘Little Pig’, you couldn’t tell who was happiest about meeting each other.”
Other activities during Jenny’s visit included a community bike ride “Roon the Watter” – a six-mile circuit round the Water of Fleet – and chats with several local cycling groups, including teenager Rowan Muirhead from the Galloway Hillbillies, Margaret Carruthers from the Wednesday Wheelers and members from I Bike Communities D&G.
Danny added: “Jenny was fully in awe of Gatehouse and that there were so many active people. She left us for her next book launch and destination in the Borders at Innerleithen.
“She will leave many positive impacts.”
