Jonathan Ellerington was a regular sight on the streets of Hull. Despite having a home he often would sleep rough with his beloved Jack Russell, Teddy.
But just before Christmas last year the 41-year-old made one last bed for his faithful dog outside Costa Coffee before CCTV showed him appearing to slump and lose consciousness, an inquest was told. Over the next few hours people tried to check on his wellbeing with two leaving food for him, according to Hull Live.
He was found lifeless on the pavement the following morning by a Costa Coffee worker. Following his death in Ferensway on December 18 last year, a post-mortem examination found Jon had potentially deadly levels of heroin in his system.
