Roth to coach on as JackJumpers face top-six squeeze

Tasmania JackJumpers foundation coach Scott Roth has bucked the recent NBL trend after securing an extension that will keep him at the helm of the newest club until at least 2027.

Ahead of the JackJumpers' crucial Friday clash with Melbourne United, the club confirmed the former NBA forward had activated the mutual option on his existing deal and added an extra year on top.

It follows the axing of Adelaide mentor Joey Wright and Illawarra counterpart Jacob Jackomas earlier this season and reinforces the JackJumpers' faith in the man that took them to the grand final series in their first campaign.

"Scott's new contract gives us stability as the club grows beyond its infancy and supports the very positive discussions around new ownership," club boss Christine Finnegan said.

"Scott's coaching record speaks for itself, but it is also the work he has done off the court contributing to all pillars of our business that have contributed to this decision.

"Participation, corporate, member and fan engagement are at an all-time high and continue to grow, and we are very grateful to Scott for the role he has played in this so far and will continue to do so into the future."

The JackJumpers lost their games by three points (Bullets) and one (Hawks) last round to drop to 11-11, but cling to third place on percentage ahead of Sydney and Brisbane.

They host top-of-the-table United (16-5) on Friday.
