Ross McCrorie slams ‘atrocious’ Aberdeen and calls mentality into question after Kilmarnock 'disgrace'

Ross McCrorie has hit out at the Aberdeen performance against Kilmarnock after a 2-1 defeat at Rugby Park inflicted a fourth consecutive defeat on the Dons.

Scott Robinson opened the scoring for the hosts on 31 minutes before Joe Wright doubled the deficit before half-time in what was a bleak display from Jim Goodwin's side. Aberdeen through more at it in the second half with the introductions of Vicente Besuijen, Christian Ramirez and Marley Watkins but despite a spectacular free-kick from Matty Kennedy in stoppage time, the north-east side left Ayrshire empty handed.

Aberdeen have picked up just seven points out of a possible 30 on their travels this season, scoring a mere nine goals in the process compared to being one of the Scottish Premiership's top performers on home soil. They are yet to get off the mark since the World Cup break and McCrorie, who captained his side in the absence of Anthony Stewart, reckons many of the Pittodrie squad need to have a rethink of their mentality when approaching matches away from home.

McCrorie told RED TV: "It wasn't good at all. To be honest, the first half was atrocious. The way we went out and performed wasn't good enough or anywhere near the standard of the players we have got. The way we played in that first half was a disgrace. We weren't closing boys down, we were second to every ball and Killie were the better team by a mile in the first half.

"We need to get our act together because that's four defeats on the bounce this now and we've got Ross County up next at home. To put it simple it wasn't good enough, the players we weren't at it and it's something we need to rectify quickly.

"I would say there was a lot of effort but the mentality at times is not there. I think sometimes we think we can rock up to these places and win but when you come to a place like Rugby Park, it's going to be a battle.

"It's going to be physical, we need to get the sleeves up sometimes and we need to battle away. I don't think we did that, we never won the right to dominate the game especially in the first half. The start we got off to was nowhere near it."
