Jeanfield Swifts manager Ross Gunnion hopes anyone not following St Johnstone this weekend can head down to the Riverside.
Saints’ supporters group Fair City Unity announced this week that they are boycotting the fixture against Rangers in a stand against ticket prices.
With Swifts at home to Broxburn Athletic on Saturday, Gunnion is sending out the invite to local football fans.
“I did notice the ticket prices at Ibrox and can’t blame the St Johnstone fans for making a stand,” Gunnion said.
“Whilst it’s harsh on the team not getting the support they deserve, under the current climate I can see their point.
“Hopefully, a few of them would like to come along as it’ll be the biggest game in town on Saturday.
“The club, conscious of how hard things are getting for fans, made the decision to hold ticket prices this year at £6 for adults and £3 for concessions which makes us the lowest priced ticket in our league, and lower than some teams in the league below.
“So in terms of value I think we take some beating.”
Swifts sit top of the East of Scotland League’s Premier Division after the opening three games of the season. Gunnion is keen for that early momentum to continue.
“Broxburn are always a strong team with a lot of quality in the playing and coaching staff,” Gunnion explained to the PA.
“They’ve been going through a cycle of players over the last 12 months and the squad they have now is capable of challenging for the league in my opinion.
“They’ve signed experience all over the park but combined that with talented young players so they’ll be a match for anyone once they all settle into the club.
“We have always had some tough games against them and last year they did a number on us at Riverside so we’ll need to be at our best to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
In terms of squad availability, Gunnion is getting close to having a full squad at his disposal.
He told the PA: “Shaun Struthers is training again and close to being fit.
“Dayle Robertson got his first game time of the season last week and Chris Dodd isn’t far away.
“With the weather looking good, hopefully we can make it an enjoyable Saturday for everyone.”
Kick-off at the Riverside on Saturday is 2.30pm. Adult ticket prices come in at £6 while concessions can gain entry for just £3. Under-16s go free of charge.
