Investor Ross Gerber of Gerber Kawasaki thinks Elon Musk-led Space Exploration Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:SPCX) should create a Starlink-enabled smartphone.
An AI Phone With No Apps
In a post on X on Saturday, the investor said that he did not see a need for a “smart speaker” made by artificial intelligence company OpenAI and that the move was an “obvious miss” by the Sam Altman-led company.

“I’m been thinking a lot about a starlink AI based phone with a 3 day battery life,” the investor said, adding that the phone would have “no apps” and that it “just does what you tell it to do.” Gerber also said that the phone would be able to connect “anywhere in the world” and have a “fixed rate cost.”

In a separate post, Gerber responded to user @poshimoto, who urged Musk to create a Starlink smartphone, saying that they would ditch their current service provider if Starlink releases a phone.
Gerber agreed with the user’s take. “Many would buy one just as a back up… I have two starlink systems,” the investor said in his response.

Notably, SpaceX shares were up 3.07% to $137.19 during pre-market trading on Monday, illustrating that the company’s shares had rebounded to above the IPO price of $135/share after weeks of decline.
Elon Musk Touts Connected Cars
Musk recently touted “billions” of connected cars via Starlink after a cybercab was spotted testing in Dallas, Texas, with a Starlink dish. The billionaire said that satellite internet could provide high-bandwidth connectivity to billions of vehicles across the world.
On the other hand, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) recently said that it had run out of funds allocated through Gov. Gavin Newsom‘s (D-CA) MyFirstEV rebate program that targets first-time EV buyers in the state with a $3,500 discount on new EVs and a $1,750 discount on used ones.
