Rosamund Pike fights back tears during curtain call of London play Inter Alia

Rosamund Pike became overcome with emotion during the curtain call of her West End show, Inter Alia.

The Gone Girl star, 47, has reprised her role as Crown Court Judge Jessica Parks in the play, which debuted at the National Theatre last July.

She returned for the play’s West End press night premiere on Tuesday night and fought back tears as she thanked the audience at the end of the performance.

The former Bond girl was seen covering her face with both hands as the audience applauded her and her castmates.

In Inter Alia, Pike plays a Crown Court Judge specialising in sexual violence cases, whose teenage son Harry is accused of rape.

The horrendous allegation leaves her character torn between her commitment to justice and her obligation to protect her son.

The Standard’s Nick Curtis gave the play four out of five stars, stating that Pike “is a whirlwind as Jess faces down defendants, mounts a lavish dinner party, lets rip at a girls’ karaoke night, and even engages in a marital sex scene – in which her husband’s midlife crisis guitar acts as a phallic prop - that manages to be both erotic and painfully awkward”.

He added: “Onstage throughout, Pike is in constant motion, slipping in and out of outfits, catching a casually flung lemon, and keeping up a sometimes amused, sometimes emotionally frayed commentary for the audience on how her gender affects her life.

“The role plays to her dramatic skills but also a flair for physical comedy, as when a clothese iron spurting steam becomes a stand-in for her bumptious barrister husband.”

Last month, Pike took home the Critics’ Circle Theatre award for best actress for her performance in Inter Alia.

Among her fellow nominees was Rachel Zegler, who was up for her performance playing Eva Peron – Argentina’s former first lady – in Jamie Lloyd’s production of the hit musical Evita.

Pike - whose film credits include Die Another Day and Jack Reacher - returned to the theatre last July after more than a decade away.

Just two months before her big return, she was punched in the face by a "mugger" on a bicycle in a violent robbery in London.

The Wheel of Time star was on the phone to her mother when the attacker struck, snatching the device from her hand.

"I was on the phone to my mother — on a mobile phone walking along a road — and I was mugged,” she told Magic Radio in May 2025.

"The phone was snatched so all she heard was me scream and a thud and the phone went dead."

She described the attacker as "a kid" who cycled past her before punching her in the side of the cheek, leaving her with a bruise.
