While McIlroy will naturally be disappointed with the defeat, his massive prize money will likely make him feel a little better.
The Holywood man can now finish either 3rd or 4th in the tournament. This means that he is guaranteed to earn a minimum of €1.062 million ($1.145 million) for his week's work.
Should he defeat Scheffler and finish in third place on Sunday evening, McIlroy will earn a staggering €1.32 million ($1.42 million).
Young will now take on Sam Burns in Sunday's final, where the winner will walk away with a cheque for €3.25 million ($3.5 million)
