Rory McIlroy ends Masters round with unbelievable shot as he matches lowest ever final-round score at Augusta

Rory McIlroy ended his Masters round with an incredible shot on Sunday as he matched the lowest ever final-round score at Augusta.

The Hollywood golfer's round of 64 was just one shot off the course record and his second lowest round in any major.

It was also the only bogey-free round by any golfer all week.

McIlroy ended the round with an unbelievable bunker shot that found its way into the hole for a birdie.

The 32-year-old made the ideal start to his round with a birdie on the first and then smashed a 376-yard drive on the second, only to push his approach into a bunker and fail to get up and down.

But he made amends for his error on the second by driving the green on the par-four third and two-putting for birdie.

He parred the fourth, fifth and sixth before further birdies on the seventh and eighth.

He missed a good birdie opportunity on the ninth but made amends in style on the 10th, chipping in from the back of the green to improve to four under.

McIlroy then made an eagle on the par-five 13th to reach seven under for the round, meaning the course record of 63 – held by Nick Price and Greg Norman – was a realistic target.

He finished his round in spectacular fashion, going from bunker to bunker on the 18th before holing out for a birdie to spark wild celebrations.

“This tournament never ceases to amaze and that’s as happy as I’ve ever been on a golf course right there,” McIlroy said after his 64.

He felt his seven-under-par total would come up “a little short”, but added: “I gave it a good go and could not ask any more of myself.”
