Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler to face LIV Golf duo Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in TV match

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will join forces to take on on Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a televised match in Las Vegas later this year.

The contest will be held in mid-December and pits two of the biggest names on the PGA Tour against two of the highest profile LIV Golf players.

The event will be broadcast on TNT, which previously hosted nine editions of The Match, the series of exhibitions which began with Tiger Woods taking on Phil Mickelson in 2018.

DeChambeau and Koepka faced off in the fifth edition, during a long-running rivalry between the pair as they exchanged public barbs. Koepka came out on top on that occasion, and the pair have since improved their relationship.

It remains uncertain as to whether December’s match will form part of The Match series, with the format not yet confirmed.

DeChambeau and McIlroy went toe-to-toe during a thrilling conclusion to the US Open in Pinehurst earlier in the summer, with the American winning his second major after a dramatic late collapse from McIlroy.

Scheffler, meanwhile, has just capped a stunning season on the PGA Tour, winning £19m after victory in the Tour Championship. His seven wins in 2024, to go with a gold medal at the Olympic, is the most in a season since Tiger Woods matched that in 2007.

McIlroy told Golfweek: "I'm thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December.

"This isn't just a contest between some of golf's major champions, it's an event designed to energize the fans. We're all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again."

“Brooks and Scottie are very excited to be a part of this unique event and look forward to sharing more soon,” said Blake Smith, who represents both Koepka and Scheffler.

Golfweek reported that the players would receive an appearance fee but would not compete for prize money.
