Athletics rookie Joshua Kuroda-Grauer suffered a ruptured testicle after fouling off a pitch during Monday night's 5-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, an injury that required emergency surgery and temporarily halted the 23-year-old infielder's promising Major League Baseball season.

Kuroda-Grauer initially left the game with what the Athletics described as a testicular contusion, or bruising caused by blunt trauma. He was later taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, where an ultrasound revealed the more serious injury, according to the team.
