A new rooftop terrace and performance space could be created on top of the former Debenhams building in Liverpool City Centre - as part of a wider transformation of the site into an entertainment complex.
Major plans have already been approved on turning the former high street store in Liverpool One into a £10 million go-karting, bowling, indoor golf and retail development. Gravity Entertainment is behind the project at the 100,000 sqft venue. It is hoped the complex will attract 700,000 visitors each year and employ 250 local people.
While work on the project is ongoing, a further planning application has been submitted to Liverpool Council that could add another element. The new plans concern the large building's rooftop area.

The application, which comes from Liverpool One owners Grosvenor, is seeking permission to use the roof space of the building as an external roof space to be used alongside the new entertainment facilities that will be built across the first and second floor of the site. The area would be semi-covered with retractable canvas canopies, along with a fixed glass section.
If approved, the space would also incorporate a performance stage, seating areas and a bar space along with external lighting. A planning report states: "The proposed terrace will provide outdoor seating space that will work alongside the broader leisure fit out of the former Debenhams store in Liverpool One into an indoor activity centre. The outdoor terrace space will provide semi covered seating space that will be utilised for entertainment, dining, and drinking."
If they are given the green light, the plans would provide a further element to what will be a total redevelopment of what was one of Liverpool One's flagship stores, before department store giant Debenhams went into administration in 2020.
Gravity Active Entertainment is now under-way with its work to convert the building into something totally different. It is hoped the £10m go-karting, bowling and indoor golf centre could open later this year.
In July, new CGIs and a fly-through video of how the new entertainment complex could look were released.
Michael Harrison, co-founder and chief growth officer at Gravity, said: "It has been great working with Grosvenor and its team, all of whom share our passion and commitment to creating something unique in the heart of this fantastic city."
Alison Clegg, managing director, asset management, Grosvenor, added: "The fly through and visuals really bring to life the scale, ambition and significance of what Gravity is creating in Liverpool ONE.
"This is going to be a fantastic new anchor that provides additional reasons to visit or extend an existing trip, and reaffirms Liverpool ONE’s position as the UK’s leading retail and entertainment destination."
