Ronan Keating impressed by talented South Shields singer, 11, after The Voice Kids audition

At the age of just 11, South Shields singer Yazmin Asim can already count Ronan Keating as one of her biggest fans.

The talented youngster wowed judges when she performed on The Voice Kids last weekend during the blind auditions of the ITV show. Yazmin impressed former Boyzone star Ronan with her version of the track 'Fingers Crossed' by Lauren Spencer Smith, earning her a chair spin from the star.

Following her performance, Ronan told Yazmin: "I'm so delighted to have you on my team. Welcome to Team Ronan."

And judges Will.i.am, Pixie Lott, and Danny Jones, were also left in awe of the youngster's talent, with Pixie Lott praising Yazmin's ability to hold long notes.

The star said: "Did you enjoy that Yazmin?" To which Yazmin replied: "It's the best thing I've ever done."

Pixie continued: "I loved the choruses and your long, sustained notes." Ronan added: "That's what made me turn."

Will.i.am told Yazmin: "You are really awesome."

Yazmin's proud mum, Marybeth Gilbride, 31, told Chronicle Live that Yazmin had wanted to be a pop star from the age of four and now the youngster is one step closer to achieving her dream after making it through to the next round of the show.

"Is amazing to think someone as big and well-known as Ronan thought my daughter was good enough," Marybeth said.

"The reaction to the show has been amazing! We have had family sharing it in Spain, Holland, Pakistan, and Scotland!

"The support and the love for Yazmin has been amazing. She even got stopped at the Quayside market by a stranger and told how fabulous she was on the show!"

Yazmin, who attends Sacred Heart High School in Newcastle, applied for the programme last September following the encouragement of Dudman Academy singing teacher, Natasha Dudman.

She then traveled to auditions in Manchester and London before being selected to star in the blind audition which was filmed in March.

Marybeth added: "Yazmin is back on the TV on Saturday at 7pm with her Team Ronan performance to see if she gets into the final.

"All the 16 semi-finalists are very talented children and should be so proud of how far they have come."

Watch Yazmin on The Voice Kids on ITV at 7pm on Saturday, July 15.
