Ronaldo Singh creates national record in Asian Track Cycling Championship

NEW DELHI: Ace Indian cyclist Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam created a national record in the men's sprint qualification, clocking an impressive time of 9.877 seconds at the Asian Track Cycling Championship in Niali, Malaysia on Thursday.

Ronaldo, who secured the 10th position, qualified for the Round of 16. The 21-year-old athlete from Manipur surpassed his own previous national record by 0.033 seconds, further highlighting his remarkable progress.

"Ace Indian cyclist Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam created a New NR in Men's Sprint Qualification (200m Flying Time Trial) after clocking 9.877s as he finished 10th at the Asian Track Cycling Championships,' the Sports Authority of India (SAI) tweeted.

Ronaldo, who is a beneficiary of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), showcased his talent at the National Velodrome in Nilai.

In the previous edition of the championship held in New Delhi, Ronaldo made history by becoming the first Indian cyclist to win a silver medal in a continental tournament in the senior category.

He accomplished this feat in the sprint event. Additionally, he also secured bronze medals in the 1km time trial and team sprint events during the same tournament.
