Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs is still in the concussion protocol as of Tuesday afternoon and cornerback Jaire Alexander still has an uncertain status ahead of Thursday night’s showdown with the Detroit Lions.
Doubs, who suffered a concussion on Nov. 24, and Alexander, who is recovering from an aggravated knee ligament injury, have both practiced in a limited capacity each of the last three days, but the Packers don’t know if either will play Thursday night.
Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Doubs is still in the NFL’s concussion protocol, which is a five-step return to play process. The final stage is full clearance for contact from the club and clearance from an individual neurological consultant. Doubs was limited on Tuesday. He still has plenty of time to complete the protocol and play against the Lions, but the clock is ticking.
On Alexander, the Packers plan to talk through the situation coming out of Tuesday’s practice. The All-Pro cornerback hasn’t played since going out after only 10 snaps against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 17. He is believed to have a torn PCL in his knee.
“We’ll have some more conversations,” LaFleur said Tuesday. “I want to go look at the tape, see where we’re at, talk to our coaches, talk to Ja, and see where we’re at.”
It’s possible Alexander still needs more time — and the Packers have extra rest following Thursday night before playing the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday night — to get his knee ready to play in a game again. While the Packers would love to have him for a big NFC North showdown, Alexander returned too early in November and it cost him and the Packers more time without their best corner.
The Packers will issue a final injury report on Wednesday before going to Detroit to play the Lions on Thursday night.
