Romeo Beckham is set to make his debut in English professional football … at Crewe Alexandra.
The 20-year-old is training with the Brentford B team, who will meet Crewe in a specially-arranged behind-closed-doors game on Saturday. The League Two club announced the fixture on Monday and said reports and special updates would be provided but no spectators would be allowed inside the Alexandra Stadium.
Beckham is contracted to Inter Miami reserves but his season has ended and he is back in London. Romeo and his two brothers joined Arsenal in 2014 but Brooklyn, 23, and Cruz, 17, decided not to pursue a career in the. game.
Romeo also looked like giving up the game after being released by Arsenal but he has played for Fort Lauderdale (now Inter Miami II) and for Inter - owned by dad David - in a friendly earlier this year.
Romeo made 26 appearances for Inter Miami’s second team last season, scoring twice. He also made a cameo appearance in a first team friendly against Barcelona in the summer.
"First full season was full of ups and downs," he wrote on Instagram at the end of the domestic season. "Not the ending we as a team wanted but only lessons learned to take into next year. Love this team and the journey we are on."
Will Romeo Beckham ever play in the Premier League? Let us know here
Brentford and the Beckhams have been quiet about Romeo’s role in the B squad but it seems as though he might get his first taste of action in Crewe this weekend.
Romeo told PUMA earlier this year: "I’ve grown up around football, so it was always a big interest for me and when I started playing more seriously it became a goal. I played other sports too but decided football was the route I wanted to go down.
"I’ve always been an attacking player and I’m pretty quick so I think I’m at my best when playing wide and getting crosses in. I love taking set pieces too, which I’ve been practicing a lot in the off-season. I’m pretty quiet on the pitch and like my football to do the talking really."
