Romelu Lukaku has already delivered honest verdict on Arsenal move amid shock transfer claim

Romelu Lukaku is unlikely to take Paul Merson's advice by swapping Chelsea for Arsenal this summer if his previous comments are anything to go by.

Lukaku joined the Blues for a club-record £98.5million last summer after establishing himself as one of Europe's most prolific strikers during a successful two-year stint with Inter Milan. However, he struggled to make a similar impact for Thomas Tuchel 's side last season, netting just eight Premier League goals and frustrating fans following a controversial interview that saw him admit he wants to one day return to the Nerazzurri.

The Belgian international has since been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks and former Arsenal star Merson even told his old side to make a move for the misfiring frontman. Writing in The Daily Star, he said: “Arsenal should make a cheeky £60m bid for Romelu Lukaku this summer.

"Because if Chelsea are so desperate to let him go that they’re talking about loaning him to Inter Milan, surely they would take the money! Arsenal haven’t had someone who is big and strong and dynamic like that since Kevin Campbell.

"I know he hasn’t scored a lot of goals this season but Lukaku is an elite goalscorer. Arsenal play great football up to the edge of the box but then it often fizzles out."

However, Lukaku joining the Gunners seems incredibly unlikely, particularly when you consider what he has previously said about a potential move to the north Londoners. Following Chelsea's 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium back in September, Lukaku was asked what he would reply to Arsenal supporters telling him to join Mikel Arteta's men by beINSPORTS before simply replying: “Nothing. No thanks.”
