In the era of Area-Denial grenade launchers, it’s hard for an old-school Wave Frame to stand out. There’s one breech-loaded grenade launcher in Destiny 2, Romantic Death, that is worth using even if you haven’t touched Wave Frames in a long time.
Romantic Death is a Void Wave Frame breech-loaded grenade launcher. As you’d expect from a Void weapon, it has the usual perks for Subclass synergy, like Destabilizing Rounds and Repulsor Brace, but also has a couple of sleeper perks.

What is the Romantic Death god roll in Destiny 2?

Romantic Death has almost everything you might want in PvE. Contrary to the most popular roll, our god roll has Reverberation in the third column. It grants 100 blast radius for 5.5 seconds, which increases the length of the wave, after you get a final blow with the weapon. The increase is significant, doubling the wave’s length, and it’s the only way to get maximum blast radius on this gun.
Repulsor Brace is still present on this grenade launcher to get overshields with kills on Void-debuffed targets. But it feels unnecessary if your core build already has reliable sources of survivability. If you decide to go with the Repulsor Brace, though, look for barrel, magazine, and Masterwork to increase blast radius.
Romantic Death has 66 base reload speed (76 with High-Velocity Rounds), so perks for reload, like Feeding Frenzy or Threat Detector, aren’t needed as much.
In the fourth column, there’s an option for everyone. Destabilizing Rounds is a fantastic option for more AoE damage, as it applies Volatile within 6.5 meters of a kill and grants Volatile Rounds, making enemies go boom. For more general use, there’s Chain Reaction that creates elemental explosions in a 2.4-meter radius when getting a final blow.
For more challenging content, you may also consider One for All, which grants a 35 percent damage buff when hitting three targets within three seconds. It’s quite easy to do with a Wave Frame, and the damage increase can be beneficial.
In the Crucible, there’s usually no reason to pick a breech-loaded grenade launcher. Even if you do want one to deny territory, an Area Denial Frame like the VS Velocity Baton or Festival Flight would do a much better job with lingering damage pools.
Still, if you decide to try Romantic Death in PvP, there’s a Threat Detector + Impulse Amplifier roll. Threat Detector increases stability, reload speed, and most importantly, handling, when enemies are close by. Impulse Amplifier increases projectile velocity by 35 percent, allowing you to quickly react to incoming Guardians.
How to get Romantic Death in Destiny 2
Romantic Death has been available as a part of the Reclaim event with the launch of Ash & Iron, and is now also available with the Call to Arms event. Attune to the weapon at Devrim in the Tower and complete activities with the Call to Arms weapon engram as a bonus drop for a chance to get the gun.
Weapons from Call to Arms drop at a higher Tier, just like during Solstice and Festival of the Lost events, so it should be fairly easy to get Tier 5 rolls. There are also Holofoil versions of every weapon, including the Trachinus shotgun, for true grinders.
