Roman Kemp reveals hilarious reason why he wants to see dad Martin on I'm A Celeb

Roman Kemp hopes dad Martin appears on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! for one vengeful reason.

The Capital Breakfast host enjoyed a stint in the jungle himself in 2019 and believes former EastEnders actor Martin will follow in his footsteps in the near future.

The radio presenter is "very up" for the Spandau Ballet singer heading into the famous Australian jungle when the ITV show returns Down Under later this year - mainly so he can get his own back on his famous father.

Roman took part in Series 19 of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! - lasting the full 22 days and finishing in third place, behind Corrie star Andy Whyment and winner Jacqueline Jossa.

The 29-year-old faced some tricky Bushtucker Trials during his time in the jungle - mainly thanks to dad Martin encouraging viewers watching at home to nominate his son!

"Listen, I would do anything to see my dad eat llama anus," Roman reveals when chatting to Mirror Online from The Volvic Touch of Fruit Keep Cool Hub in London on Saturday morning.

"I’ll tell you why, because when I got nominated the first time we did the [trials], I went up to do it and it was the eating trial," he continues to recall.

"When you’re in there, you get so paranoid about why people are voting for you, because you’re like ‘f*** am I coming across as a d*** and people want to see me suffer', right?

"When I got out I was looking through some of the headlines, and it turns out the only reason I got voted to do that trial at the beginning - the [reason I had ] paranoia - was because my dad tweeted: 'Let’s get my son to eat kangaroo anus'.

"So best believe when he’s in there...Oh my God. I'm very up for him going in."

So does that mean Martin is preparing to sign up for the ITV show later this year?

"I think if he was offered the chance to do it I think he would," Roman reveals.

Away from wanting to see each other pushed to their limits in the Australian jungle, Roman and Martin have an exceptionally close father-and-son relationship - often showcased during their appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox together.

The star recently revealed the emotional reason why he does Celebrity Gogglebox (Studio Lambert)

Last month, Roman revealed the sweet reason why he initially agreed to do the Channel 4 show alongside his father.

"Literally, the reason I chose Gogglebox is that I know that when I'm older and and when he's not here anymore, I can say to my kids and my grandkids 'this was the relationship I had with my dad.' So that's why I do it," he explained at the Tric Awards in July.

Roman was also quizzed about whether he has any plans to branch out into TV more, following stints on programmes such as The One Show as well as Celebrity Gogglebox.

"I don't think I could branch out anymore to be totally honest - I can’t stop working," he joked with the Mirror and other press. "I've always said radio is first for me, every time."

Roman jokes he's the 'most boring person alive' to ever hosted Capital Breakfast (PA)

Roman has won multiple awards and accolades since he first began presenting Capital Breakfast almost six years ago, but the multi-talented star worries he's "really boring" compared to his party-loving predecessors.

"I’ve never been able to day-time drink," he revealed as he spoke to us from Southbank, London - where he was offering free tuktuk rides to see famous city landmarks to the public alongside Volvic Touch of Fruit.

"That’s why I’m always just on water. Whenever I’m at a festival or anything like that, I can’t do it - something in my head says alcohol is for night-time!

"I always felt like I had made the Capital Breakfast host job really boring," he continued.

"In years previously, you had real party people like Johnny Vaughan and Dave Berry and they’d take the team out afterwards and go to the pub after a show - beers by midday. And I’m just like, nah I’ll have a bottle of water."

"I honestly think I’m one of the most boring people alive who has done that job!"

Roman's love of h2o makes him the perfect ambassador for Volvic's latest campaign to keep Britain hydrated during the heatwave - with the water company's recent research finding that typically 35% of Brits drink more in the heat.

“Whilst I've loved having a sunny British summer for once, sometimes it is just a welcome break to get out of the heat for a little bit," he admitted ahead of his stint in Southbank over the weekend.

"The Volvic Touch of Fruit Tuk tuks and Keep Cool Hub are a much needed rest from the sun, so you can cool off, refresh and reset whilst getting a nice trip around some of London's landmarks."
