Rohan Smith insists no players will arrive at Leeds Rhinos ahead of Saturday's Magic Weekend clash. The Rhinos have freed up salary cap space by moving Jack Walker on loan for the remainder of the season, allowing them to make a mid-season addition.
However, the Rhinos boss insists nothing is imminent. The Rhinos are thought to be keen on adding to their squad but have been unable to identify a suitable target, one that is crucially available to join the club this week. Smith didn't rule an additions, or further outgoings, but insisted that the only change to the 21-man squad this week would see Jack Walker replaced by an existing member of the squad.
"Jack needs to be playing," Smith said when asked about his move to Hull FC. "He's missed a bunch of time and he's been training well. At this stage Hardaker and Myler have done us a good job at fullback in recent times so it makes sense for everyone to get Jack playing some good footy.
"Jack's move to Hull is about getting Jack opportunity to play, that's the intention there. Nobody will come in ahead of Saturday, no."
Pushed on the club's immediate plans, Smith was coy but didn't rule out further movement. "We'll always be looking to retain and recruit. Squad roster management is an ongoing process all the time and we'll be continuing that process day-to-day and working out what's best going forward.
"If there's opportunity for players to secure their future elsewhere and that benefits us in terms of roster management all things will be considered. We're light on numbers at the minute so it's not our intention to lose anyone short-term but it's a case-by-case situation."
