Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has been announced as the commencement speaker at Dartmouth College's upcoming graduation ceremony in June. The Ivy League school revealed that Federer will address the graduating class and receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during the event in Hanover.
Dartmouth President Sian Leah Beilock expressed her excitement at welcoming Federer to campus, citing his status as one of the greatest athletes of all time. She highlighted Federer's enduring joy on the tennis court as a quality that she believes will resonate with the Class of 2024.
Having retired in 2022 at the age of 41, Federer concluded a remarkable career that spanned nearly 25 years and included an impressive 20 Grand Slam titles. Beyond his athletic achievements, Federer has also made significant contributions off the court. In 2003, he established a foundation that has invested over $96 million in early education programs benefiting children in need in Switzerland and six African countries.
An announcement video featuring Beilock and Federer was released earlier this month, showcasing the tennis star's fondness for playing on grass. In the video, Federer expressed his enthusiasm and honor at being chosen as the commencement speaker, playfully referencing the Dartmouth Green and inviting the graduating class to join him in June.
