Rodrigo details Jesse Marsch 'leadership council' duties amid Leeds United training camp

Leeds United star Rodrigo has revealed his responsibilities as a member of manager Jesse Marsch's 'senior leadership team' at Elland Road as the Whites continue their Spanish training camp.

The 31-year-old has netted nine times already this campaign and has been a vital member of the squad in recent weeks having managed five goals in his last four league games for Leeds.

But the Spaniard isn't just responsible for his own performances on the pitch - it's also off the pitch where he tries to help everyone from giving up-and-coming stars advice as well as just drumming up a cheerful atmosphere around the club.

Marsch has spoken before about having created a 'senior leadership council', which also includes captain Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford, Adam Forshaw and Luke Ayling, and Rodrigo revealed some of their duties when speaking to the Official Leeds United Podcast.

"I think we're just trying to create a positive atmosphere in the squad with everyone, trying to help the younger lads that are coming into the first team now.

"Honestly, we don't have to do anything super special but it's just about trying to create a good atmosphere with everyone, create a positive vibe in the group and compete at the highest level.

"Jesse is trying to have a good relationship with everyone here. He's the kind of coach and kind of leader that wants to be really close with everyone, and I'm really happy to work with him."

Despite all the shining player reviews, Marsch hasn't won the fans over just yet as many have been calling for his sacking since the eight-match winless streak earlier this season.

But Rodrigo, who has been vital for the Whites, and even Marsch himself, this season claims that without him, they couldn't perform at the levels the fans are expecting from them.

"Of course, I always respect his role as the manager first! But yeah, I'm really happy to be working with him, we're trying to do our best to achieve the results and be better each game.

"He tries to create a healthy environment [for the players] not just during training when we see him but during the whole time that we're here.

"I think now we're getting to spend a lot more time together because when we're in England, you go to the training ground but afterwards everyone leaves to live their own lives.

"I think he's doing really well, everyone is enjoying it, having a good time, which is something that I think is very, very important if we want to perform at high levels."
