Rodrigo Bentancur reveals when he could make Tottenham injury return for Ange Postecoglou

Rodrigo Bentancur has stated that he hopes to be playing again for Tottenham in "two or three months". Playing a pivotal role in midfield for the Lilywhites in the first half of the 2022/23 campaign, Spurs were dealt a hammer blow when the influential midfielder departed the pitch after 65 minutes against Leicester City in February.

Sustaining an ACL injury in the 4-1 defeat at the King Power Stadium which duly brought his campaign to an abrupt end, Spurs really suffered in the Uruguayan's absence and fell out of the running for a Champions League spot before eventually missing out on Europe altogether. With question marks over when exactly he will return for Tottenham, new head coach Ange Postecoglou will be hoping it is sooner rather than later as the 25-year-old will be pivotal to his plans going forward.

As it is just over a week until Tottenham's non-internationals return for the start of pre-season training at Hotspur Way, all Spurs fans will have their fingers crossed that they see Bentancur back with his teammates as soon as possible. Speaking to Telemundo in his homeland about his recovery, the classy player has given Spurs hope by revealing when he could potentially be back on the pitch for them once again.

"The injury was at a time when I was very well, but the truth is that I do not change what happened for anything,” he said, as reported by ESPN (via Sport Witness). “I was missing a lot at the family level and everything that I am experiencing with my daughter and my girlfriend in these four months is priceless. That is also why my recovery time has passed so quickly and I am doing so well.

“It’s a long injury, one of the most difficult in football, but the truth is that I’m having such a good time with my family… I train the same every day, I do double shifts two or three times a week.

“I brought the club’s physiotherapist to Uruguay; we continue working and my knee is doing very well. I didn’t set a lap time, but I hope in two or three months to be at least gaining a few minutes again.”

Bentancur will operate as part of a midfield three under Postecoglou and he will be given licence to attack in one of the two No.8 roles. That could mean he adds even more goals to his game after hitting six in his 26 appearances for Tottenham last season.
