Concerned Andy Walker reckons Rodri and his Spain teammates were right to fume about the Hampden pitch after defeat to Scotland.
The Manchester City midfielder led a raft of excuses from the Spanish camp following the shock 2-0 victory for Steve Clarke's side that put them in poll position to reach Euro 2024. Spain captain Rodri was quick to blame the tactics deployed by Scotland describing them as "rubbish" while teammates Dani Cebellos and David Garcia chimed in with concerns over the standard of the pitch - with Garcia stating the grass was too long in Glasgow.
With the Scottish Cup semi-final clash between Falkirk and Inverness taking place 24 hours before Celtic continue their push for a Treble when they face rivals Rangers at the national stadium. Michael Beale will look to keep hopes of brining silverware to Ibrox during his first season in the hot seat - but Walker reckons the back to back games could see the moaning Spain players proven right.
Asked about Rodri's post match comments, Walker told The Go Radio Football Show: "I do think there is still an issue with the pitch. Spain didn't like it, they certainly had the lion's share of possession, but they spat the dummy out at the end. I think we do want a better surface at Hampden.
"It is a showpiece occasion. I know we have had a tough winter, but no one is playing on that surface. We should have a brilliant surface, and I am thinking about the two semi-finals coming up. One after the other isn't ideal.
"You just want a really good surface. All players want that. (It's a) Showpiece occasion; you want the best surface for the best players."
