Rodri explains how Man City manager Pep Guardiola has improved him

Manchester City ace Rodri has opened up about how Pep Guardiola has helped to improve his game, before revealing what impresses him most about his fellow countryman.

Rodri arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Atletico Madrid for a then club record £62.8million in 2019. The midfielder was signed as Fernandinho's long-term replacement and has impressed in the holding role for Guardiola's side in the past few seasons.

The 26-year-old has been reflecting on his time in Manchester ahead of Spain's opening match of the 2022 World Cup against Costa Rica, with the Blues man expressing his delight about working under Guardiola every single day.

As part of City's 'World Cup Magazine', Rodri praised his club manager for 'making history' wherever he goes - admitting that Guardiola has changed football.

"It is four years that I have been here at City and working with Pep Guardiola and I have had good coaches in the past," said Rodri.

"It seems normal to me now to have him, but of course it is not normal. For sure, he makes history wherever he goes; Barcelona, Bayern and of course here. He has changed the game I think since he came here."

Rodri also suggested that the City boss had improved his understanding of his role and explained why the Spanish coach is so impressive.

He added: "He [Guardiola] has made me a different player, a top player in the sense of my knowledge of the game, how I have to behave, the role in the team, some aspects that are important in the game.

"He is one of the best and the one thing that most impresses me is that he has won everything. He is still hungry every day, he is demanding every day, doesn’t relax and that is something that is impressive."

Rodri has made 171 appearances for the Blues since joining the club, with the holding midfielder registering 13 goals and 12 assists. He has won two Premier League titles and two EFL cups.
