Rodri has urged Man City to sign his Spain team-mate Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.
Williams – alongside Rodri – played a pivotal role in guiding Spain to glory at Euro 2024 in the summer.
The 22-year-old scored the first goal before Mikel Oyarzabal struck a late winner after Cole Palmer’s equaliser for The Three Lions.
Rodri took the opportunity to praise his compatriot while receiving an accolade from Spanish newspaper AS Sport.
Williams was also recognised at the event but was unable to attend due to his side’s preparations for their clash with Real Madrid.
Rodri ‘Without A Doubt’ Would Take Nico Williams to Man City
Man City star Rodri interacted with Nico Williams and Spain manager Luis de la Fuente over a remote connection during the AS Sport ceremony.
Williams talked about Bilbao’s upcoming clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday night. Rodri though was in a playful mood and suggested Williams should join him and play his football at City.
The Ballon d’Or winner said: “Right now, I would take him to (Manchester) City, without a doubt. So that he feels the cold of Manchester – well it’s similar to Bilbao.”
Man City have struggled this season, with Rodri set to miss the majority due to injury.
There has not been much support for Erling Haaland in terms of goals, with Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku and Savio all struggling to find the back of the net.
Williams possesses excellent pace and trickery and would be the kind of sign that Pep Guardiola needs.
Nico Williams’ Contract Situation
Nico Williams signed a contract extension in December last year which committed his future to Athletic Bilbao until June 2027.
Man City if they did make a move for Williams would potentially have to pay his £50m release clause.
However, that release clause is expected to reduce after 2026.
