Rodgers provides Celtic transfer update as two strikers targeted in 'ideal scenario'

Brendan Rodgers has revealed he wants to sign two strikers at Celtic this summer.

The Parkhead manager is keen to operate with three forwards for the upcoming season.

Currently, Kyogo Furuhashi is the sole first-team striker in the building at Celtic.

Adam Idah is back at Norwich after his loan spell, Oh Hyeon-Gyu left the club for Genk in a permanent deal and Rocco Vata joined Watford.

It leaves Rodgers light in the attacking third. Celtic have been linked with a swoop for Idah on a permanent deal but Norwich chiefs have insisted the player is part of plans there.

For Rodgers, the "ideal scenario" would be to have three strikers at his disposal - two top forwards and then bringing through a youngster.

That role had been earmarked for Vata before the youngster chose to head down south instead of penning a new contract at Celtic.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Rodgers said: “My ideal scenario would be to have three strikers.

“The plan was for us to have Kyogo, one other and bring through a youngster. That was the role we came up with for Rocco.

“It’s very difficult for a club of this size to have three top strikers.

“You can live with two because we play so many games and the specific nature of them means we can change it about.

“Three is difficult. But I also thought it would be good for development to bring in a young player from within. Rocco was that, but he’s moved on.”
