Rod Stewart spotted pouring first ever pint of Guinness in Glasgow pub

You’d think Rod Stewart had done it all – but this week he was spotted pouring his first ever pint of Guinness behind a Glasgow bar.

Rod and best mate John McLaughlin of Johnny Mac and the Faithful fame were in their regular haunt Murphy’s Irish Bar in Merchant City before the Celtic game on Wednesday evening.

And the iconic performer fancied a pint while the bar staff were setting up, so had a go himself at the legendary double pour.

John told Glasgow Live: “Rod had just flown in for the game and as usual we headed for Murphy’s. There’s a lovely wee room there that’s like the snug in a proper old Donegal bar so we were in there and Rod fancied a Guinness.

“The bar man was still setting up so Rod nipped behind the bar – we’re part of the furniture in there so it was fine – and had a go.

“His effort was more head than pint but one of the expert staff came in and showed him how to do it properly with the whole double pour thing.

“Rod said his second go was the best pint he had ever had in his life!”

Murphy’s is the lads’ regular, and where they go before and after seeing their beloved Celtic play. They’ve shot music videos in there and it’s their favourite photo shoot location too.

John said: “The two of us are in there all the time, it’s our football pub, we head straight for Murphy’s as soon as Rod lands as the atmosphere is incredible, the music is brilliant and everyone is so welcoming.

“You know Rod, there’s no airs or graces, he’s in amongst it singing his heart out and loves meeting fans.

“We love a Celtic singalong before and after the game, win lose or draw. There’s never any bother in Murphy’s, everyone is sound and welcomes us with open arms.

“It’s a real home from home for Rod and I – it’s genuinely the first place we go from the airport every time.”

The popular Irish pub on Bell Street is renowned for trad Irish music nights and has a massive Hogmanay party.

And who knows, Rod and Johnny might even drop in.
