Rod Stewart rocks Edinburgh with a few surprises in 'emotional performance for the ages'

Sir Rod Stewart performed one of his last-ever gigs at Edinburgh Castles Esplanade delighting fans with an incredible show – despite the rain.

The solo artist, known for countless heart-throbbing songs from the 1970s and 80s, defied the downpours that graced the capital during his show and put on an emotional performance for the ages, and Edinburgh Live was there to take it all in.

Rod kicked off his first show in Edinburgh for 13 years with a cover tribute and sang Robert Palmer’s ‘Addicted to Love.’

The crowd was in high spirits and were soon singing along to some of the rock and roll star's classics like ‘You Wear it Well’, ‘Ohh La La’, and ‘Some Guys Have All the Luck’.

In a change of pace to his usual routine, the crowd was then treated to some lovely traditional Scottish music with Highland dancing, which was a bit of an unexpected surprise.

And it wasn't the only nice touch that the star had in store for fans, as Woody from the Bay City Rollers and Rod's Glasgow pal and fellow singer, John McLaughlin, both appeared to sing 'Sunshine on Leith'.

At this point of the show, the crowd was well and truly enjoying the atmosphere, with Rod ending with ‘Sailing’ and, in tribute to his late father, singing 'Wild Mountain Thyme'.

The moment obviously got to Rod as he shed a tear along with the rest of the audience with hardly a dry eye in the house.

Fans will remember this performance for many reasons, but everyone will come to the same conclusion that after over 50 years of performing, Rod has still got it.

At the end of the show, one excited fan said: “Seeing Rod play at Edinburgh Castle was a dream come true and it was worth every penny. He gave us an amazing performance on stage tonight!”

While another fan added: “It was just spectacular that he got a member of the Bay City Rollers to come tonight. It really added to his show, especially as we are in Edinburgh.”
