Rod Stewart 'just getting over' Celtic loss as he sports Hoops shirt on luxury French holiday

Rod Stewart is "just getting over" Celtic's Scottish Cup loss at the weekend thanks to a swanky trip to the south of France.

The Hoops-daft singer was disappointed after his team lost 2-1 to Rangers at Hampden on Sunday, but he hasn't let that stop him from enjoying his holiday.

The Maggie May singer is currently on a spring break in Nice with wife Penny Lancaster and son Alasdair.

Yesterday, Rod, 77, and Penny, 52, posed with their arms around each other outside the impressive Annex Beach Cannes before they enjoyed a romantic dinner.

Penny stunned in a leopard print satin dress and white cardigan, while Rod opted for an all cream outfit - from his knitted jumper to his shoes.

Rod surprised fellow customers, who gushed on social media about what a 'nice person' the rockstar was as he made their day.

One lucky diner Lea shared photos from her Easter meal with her mum and Rod, writing: "What a surprise our Easter dinner turned out to be very special! He is such a nice person"

Despite suffering a football defeat at the weekend, the singer certainly isn't letting it keep him down.

Rod has been a Celtic supporter ever since he met Jock Stein in 1973 on the training ground while in Glasgow for a gig with his old band The Faces.

Last year, he told Talksport following the club around the world was 'worth every penny'.

"I met Jock Stein in 1973, Kenny Dalglish, Jimmy Johnstone and Harry Hood, all knocked on my door," he recalled.

"We just did a show with The Faces in Glasgow, and they all came to wake me and Ronnie [Wood] up to get us to go training.

"Ronnie didn't get out of bed, but I went and I met Jock Stein. He looked at me and he laughed at my shoes.

"And since that day, I've become a Celtic supporter.

"I was so enamoured by him, you know, this huge guy was just brilliant."

Asked about travelling all over the world to follow Celtic, he said: "It's worth every penny, you know.

"I'm going up there [on Thursday] and it's a lovely day out.

"It's the one thing where I spoil myself.

"And I get a private jet and go up to Glasgow and watch them.

"I don't do it very often, but I just wish sometimes they played in the Championship [English].

"I didn't say the Premiership because I think we'd do well in the Championship."
